HIEM Innovation Showcase to spotlight CVD prevention solutions

Health Innovation East Midlands (HIEM) is set to host an Innovation Showcase focused on cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention.
Taking place virtually on Thursday 13 March, the event will bring together East Midlands NHS colleagues and innovators with solutions that can help to address challenges related to the prevention of CVD.
The event is part of HIEM’s Innovation Exchange format which are designed in response to the region’s major health challenges.
To ensure the event’s themes are relevant and impactful, HIEM engaged with local health and care stakeholders. As a result, the event will feature innovations that can address one or more of the following challenges:
- Solutions proven to communicate, mobilise and empower patients and communities to access data and information that help them to understand, control, maintain and potentially improve their outcomes post-diagnosis of any CVD condition.
- Solutions that aid improvement in patient lifestyle and behaviour change aligned to improving their outcomes post-diagnosis of any CVD condition.
- Solutions that improve the identification and treatment of hypertension.
Lord Darzi’s 2024 report on the state of the National Health Service in England identified the continued trend of CVD remaining the leading cause of death in England. Whilst improvements between 2001 and 2010 meant the mortality rate dropped significantly it has stalled since. For the first time in 50 years, deaths from premature CVD are on the rise.
This report aligns with the 2023 NHS Long Term Plan which identifies CVD as a clinical priority and the single biggest condition where lives can be saved by the NHS over the next 10 years. The Plan sets the ambition for the NHS to help prevent over 150,000 heart attacks, strokes and dementia cases by 2029 – an opportunity for innovation.
If you are from a health and care organisation in the East Midlands and wish to attend the event, register here.
HIEM will launch another funding opportunity at this event. The CVD prevention innovation enabling fund will offer the opportunity to deploy and generate real world evidence for digital and medtech innovation that can help tackle the challenges in preventing CVD.
