Satisfied students who are impressed with their accommodation are behind the University of Leicester’s dramatic rise in a national league table.

Leicester has risen 20 places to fifth in the accommodation category of the 2025 Uni Compare rankings. The University is also placed ninth overall, out of 100 UK universities, while nine-out-of-10 students surveyed said they’d recommend Leicester to a friend.

The Uni Compare tables see students rank universities out of five for each category: accommodation, course quality, employability and student life. The combination of these four categories gives a university its overall ranking.

A student can only submit a review if they write a detailed account and provide their name, year of study, and the subject they are studying.

A review from Politics student, Jenae, said: “Leicester Uni offers a fantastic mix of courses and impactful research. The atmosphere is genuinely friendly, creating a supportive community. The faculty is both experienced and passionate, making the learning experience engaging. It’s not just an academic institution; it’s a vibrant community that values both knowledge and a welcoming environment.

“There are plenty of choices to suit everyone housing and accommodation-wise. The city vibe is this cool blend of history and modern stuff, and the social scene is exciting with clubs and events. It’s not just books; it’s a whole experience! Especially with societies.”

Law student Janita said: “The University of Leicester was my second choice, as I initially wanted to end up in Birmingham. When I got to Leicester, I loved how the campus wasn’t too big and all the first-year students lived in a little student village in Oadby. The student life was amazing and provided a great chance to mingle with new people. I studied Law and the course itself was great, with an option to do placement years and also an option to take an additional exam rather than complete a dissertation. Having completed my three years at Leicester, I could not see myself anywhere else. I made friends for life and the community was great.”

Leicester was also ranked 20th for employability, following a jump of 71 places compared to last year, and 23rd in both the student life and quality of course categories.
