Podcast and Top Tips help guide health conversations with CVD patients

HIEMs CVD prevention programme works with systems across the East Midlands on three key prevention workstreams – Lipid Optimisation, Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH) and Blood Pressure Optimisation.
Our aim is to support our local systems to detect, appropriately manage and optimise treatment for high cholesterol, hypertension and FH, and so reduce broader cardiovascular risk, prevent heart attacks, strokes, and dementia.
As part of the programme, we have developed resources for healthcare professionals working in this field and we’re pleased to share the latest products in this series – a podcast and Top Tips document focussing on improving communication with CVD patients.
HIEM CVD Prevention programme lead, Nikki Biddlestone said: “Patient feedback, gathered by us earlier this year highlighted that good communication was really important to them when receiving information and treatment linked to their diagnosis.
“The podcast features local clinicians discussing how they feel communication can be better facilitated in both GP and secondary care clinic appointments.
“A Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) from Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Trust who specialises in supporting Adults with Learning Disabilities & Autism also took part in the discussion. And they have shared some Top Tips for supporting patients who have communication needs and making reasonable adjustments.
“Thank you to everyone who took part in the podcast and supplied all of the supporting materials which can be accessed at the links below.”
